Tim Conway

Tim is a co-founder and the chairman of Clarus Capital, an independent equipment financing provider and a BharCap portfolio company. He is a veteran financial executive and entrepreneur.

Prior to Clarus, Tim founded NewStar Financial, an independent commercial finance company that was established in 2004. He served as chairman and CEO of NewStar from its inception until its sale to First Eagle Investment Management in 2017. He retired from the company in 2020. NewStar also built significant equipment finance and asset based lending businesses. Prior to NewStar, Tim led the repositioning and build-out of the corporate finance and capital markets businesses at Fleet Financial Group from 1997 to 2002. Previously, Mr. Conway was a managing director and senior securities officer at Citigroup in New York from 1987 to 1997, and was an investment director focusing on alternative investments at Aetna Life and Casualty from 1983 to 1987.

He has served on many not-for-profit boards, including Fairfield University, The US Squash Association, Squashbusters, The Fenn School, Citizen’s Schools and Zoo New England.

Tim graduated from Fairfield University and The University of Connecticut.
